Our living room has been evolving over the last year and it’s getting so close to finally feeling finished. We added our DIY wood beams and the new sofa last year really making a huge difference to the space.

One project on my list for last year was a family room refresh – definitely time for updated furniture and decor in that space, so I knew with a few intentional furniture swaps around our home I could knock out two spaces. Ya know the phrase, two birds one stone? More on the family room next week. Today, we’re talking all about this simple living room refresh. See the design below…

GET THE LOOK

First, I added beautiful new drapes, a heavier faux linen pinch pleat. They elevate the space so much! With that I knew I needed more substantial accent chairs to accentuate the size of the sofa on the opposite side. Scale is so important in design! Too small of furniture can be a big problem.

With these larger pieces of furniture my DIY black stained coffee table didn’t quite fit the scale as nicely. So, instead of moving my new coffee table to the family room it went in here. And this combo is definitely a perfect match.

My boucle swivel accent chairs are literally a DREAM. So comfortable yet elevated. This space really works as a formal living room/great room now. It’s less casual, little more refined, and definitely full of style. My sofa feels a little relaxed with the feather filled cushions yet refined with the sleek frame, and the structured boucle chairs really balance it all out.

I’m patiently waiting to add these black woven accent chairs to the other side along with a couple ottomans will be the finishing touch. It all takes time but I’m so happy with this progress and the overall look and feel in here.

I like the before (and still will be using my accent chairs and coffee table) but I LOVE the after! This is a great tip when re-working your spaces or needing a refresh but with little investment.
