NEUTRAL MINIMAL NURSERY REVEAL

Filed in DESIGN & STYLING — March 28, 2022

Our sweet boy’s nursery is done! Aside from a few switches my design plan came to life and I couldn’t be happier. He’s been here for four weeks and after living in the space I can say it’s better than I had even hoped. A calm, serene, neutral space perfect to grow into.

I like my home to feel cohesive and the best way to achieve this is with a color palette. Each room has a similar vibe by keeping the aesthetic and colors/finishes similar. The nursery was no different, so I opted for whites, greige, wood tones and lots of textures for a clean, simple, minimalistic neutral space.

The space before really was a blank slate. We added floor to ceiling board & batten using 1/4″ thick 3″ MDF and added a 4″ trim piece for the top and bottom in place of baseboards painted Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. The rest of the room we used our favorite white throughout our home, Benjamin Moore White Dove. We also fully customized the closet. More to come on this project in its own post soon.

I gave this IKEA TARVA dresser a makeover by adding 1/4″ lattice molding to the drawers. Spray painted knobs from Hobby Lobby in Rustoleum Metallic Champagne Bronze.

The best way to use all neutrals is to add in texture. I have a lot of white in this space but using texture and variation gives the space dimension. Like the wool rug, curtains, wood dresser – then added warmth with texture and softness with the brass accents.

I love this wood name sign from The Polymath Mom. I painted it the same color as the wall Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter then used very small nails to hang it. We hung the sign from the loops to give it a 3D look popping off the wall and I LOVE it!

I’ll be sure to add to this post once I share the full closet makeover reveal. I’m loving how this charming and super functional space turned out!

Hi, what color of the target linen curtains did you get? And do they blackout enough light?

    • Hi there! It’s the color sour cream. Yes they do wonderful! I only have woven shades on my windows which really don’t block much light. The curtains do fantastic!

  9. Annie says:

Hilary, love your space!!! What mattress do you have?!?

  10. Lindsey says:

How did you get the rug to stop shedding? I love the way it looks but it is so itchy and sheds so much. Curious if you were able to do anything to combat it? Thanks!

    • Hi! It relaxes after a few weeks-month. I have only experienced light shedding which is normal at this point with wool since that first month. Continuous vacuuming will help combat it sooner! I haven’t found it to be itchy or rough at all though. Wool is usually pretty soft underfoot.
