Anytime I share a photo of our master I get asked about my floor mirror. Luckily, I shared it on IG as we made it last year, and had it saved to eventually put together in a post! I’ve found comparable mirrors in size and look but they’re $300+. This mirror cost less than $75 to make!
I purchased a flat framed floor mirror – any floor mirror you can find that has a flat frame on it (can be any material) will work! This is my mirror HERE, only $55 for a 70″ mirror – a great deal just not very pretty, yet!
MATERIALS:
–Flat framed floor mirror
-3 1×8 pine boards
-Liquid Nails
-Saw
-Palm sander, or sandpaper
-Nail gun & 16 gauge nails
-Clamps
-Stain or paint of choice
INSTRUCTIONS:
-Lay mirror glass side up on a flat workable surface.
-Cut boards with each end at 45′ angles. Measurements will depend on what size mirror you have. For this mirror:
cut 2 boards at 73.5″ with a 45′ angle on each end.
cut last board at 30.5″ with a 45′ angle on each end, repeat for a fourth piece.
-Sand, stain or paint boards.
-Apply liquid nails on the back side of each board. Put long sides down first, then top and bottom pieces meeting up each angle.
-Clamp each board onto mirror frame to help liquid nails adhere until it is dry. Nail boards through wood boards into existing mirror frame on each corner. Let it sit – I left mine overnight.
Can fill nail holes and touch up stain/paint. I use sawdust from my project with a little wood filler to fill nail holes then a q-tip to touch up stain. I painted the existing frame on the mirror white since a hint of it can be seen along the edges where my wood frame starts. You barely see this part of the old frame but since it was silver, I wanted to paint it white. Then seal if you wish. I always use Minwax Polycrilic in clear matte as it never yellows! I chose not to seal my mirror, I dust and clean it just fine, but I liked the raw, rustic look of it as is.
I truly hope this encourages you to get after it and make something. If you can’t find what you’re looking for don’t be afraid to try making it yourself!
I’d love to see your mirrors, tag me on IG!
